Available Fastener Types

Understanding Fastener Standards and Selection

Selecting the correct fastener involves more than just matching thread sizes. In industrial design, fasteners are governed by international standards—primarily ISO (International Organization for Standardization), DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung), and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers).

Thread Geometry & Pitch

Most mechanical assemblies utilize Metric Coarse or UNC threads for general applications. Fine threads (Metric Fine/UNF) are preferred in high-vibration environments.

Fit and Clearance

A standard "medium" fit allows for manufacturing tolerances and slight misalignments without compromising the bearing surface of the fastener head.

Design Tip: Galvanic Corrosion

When specifying hardware, always consider material compatibility. Zinc-plated steel or specialized coatings are recommended when high-strength steel interfaces with aluminum.
